Trinity Health System hosts dementia support sessions by Skylar Sobansky

STEUBENVILLE, Ohio — In recognition of Brain Health Awareness Month, Trinity Health System, in collaboration with the Alzheimer’s Association, hosted a series of educational programs on Friday. The event featured four sessions aimed at supporting individuals with dementia and their caregivers.

“These new treatments can actually affect the progression of the disease and slow down the progression of the disease,” said Laura Cosentino, program manager of the Greater East Ohio Chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association. “That’s good to know in the early stage and I think there’s a stigma involved with Alzheimer’s that we need to get over. It’s a disease just like heart disease, diabetes, and it affects your brain, and it is nothing anyone has done wrong and nothing to be embarrassed about. People should feel comfortable talking to someone with dementia and being in their life and helping them.”
